Orgain Nutritional Shake Winners; Hood to Coast DVD Non-Winners; Random Shots of Beauty

It turns out that today's giveaway winner announcement has an unexpected twist that's pretty much a bummer ... but before I mention that, let's start with the good news.

Addy, Carly, and Elizbeth (in Ohio) - e-mail me your addresses; you've won the Orgain nutritional shake giveaway! I'll forward your contact info to the company rep, and you'll have a full case sent your way soon.

Now for that unexpected part of the story: two days after my Hood to Coast movie promotion was posted, I received a follow-up e-mail informing me that the director doesn't want me to share my copy of the DVD with a blog reader. When I was slow to reply to that one, I received another e-mail the very next day, stating that the director was still concerned about my offer, and would I please return it within three days.

So that's the bad news for today: NOBODY wins the Hood to Coast DVD - not even me. I understand the logic of this, of course: the director wants every last one of us to run out and buy the DVD as soon as it's released, and if I give one away for free, that's one fewer potential customer out there. The frustration from my standpoint is that I had asked in advance about giving a copy away, and shortly after my original post was published, the rep wrote me to say that it looked great. I guess that's the way things go sometimes, but I apologize for getting everyone's hopes up.

This weekend's Random Shot of Beauty could easily be mistaken for a random dose of fear; it comes from one of my most-frequented trails in Garland Ranch Regional Park, and was taken last Saturday. Click to enlarge, and read the sign:

Apparently it's mountain lion season again. And you wonder why I'm so fixated on having enough brightness from my headlamps in the morning.

Sorry to hear about the DVD contest. Mtn Lion warning- yes a bright light in early morning is a great idea!

Those signs at Garland Park always crack me up. Increased activity since when? There have always been mountain lions in the park and all over the valley, even right in the neighborhoods. Bright light and be safe Donald!

Wirehaired: It's too small to see on the photo, but those signs always include the date of the sighting on the bottom, and they're posted in the general perimeter of the sighting area for a set period of time (a week, I think). Even though I know the lions are always out there, it always unnerves me a bit when I see new signs posted.

So the director does like the publicity from your blog but is not prepared to give even one single DVD away?

Did you tell him he's a first class wa**er? I know you haven't, but you should have.

That's a shame about the DVD. Sounds like the folks behind marketing/publicizing it may not have consulted the director. Let's hope because otherwise, Thomas may be right.

Don't really worry about lions here, but coyotes are a real threat! Nice to have a heads up!

Christoph 1/16/11, 6:36 PM

Hello this is Christoph, the director of the Hood To Coast movie. I wanted to write because I am very sorry for the misunderstanding about the giveaway. We would get into a lot of trouble with the DVD distributor who is spending time and money to release the film in a few months if they would see that an unreleased DVD has been leaked to anybody but press. Thanks for respecting all the hard work and efforts of our team. We are very happy to giveaway a DVD on the blog when the DVD officially releases! It will have all the additional content, and really be the final package that was meant for everybody.

Donald 1/16/11, 8:30 PM

Christoph: Thanks very much for writing, and no hard feelings about the misunderstanding. My intention isn't to undermine your team's hard work on the movie. Feel free to get in touch with me sometime after the DVD release if you're still interested in a giveaway.

I totally understand the why behind the DVD thing. It doesn't sound like it will be very long before we can all enjoy the movie.
We have mountain lions around here too. We live next to the mountain so we've seen them early morning and late at night around the neighborhood. It unnerves me as well and I won't go when it's dark alone. At least they retreat when it gets warmer! Stay safe!
